Is Your Throat Chakra Open?

The throat chakra is the center of communication, self expression and speaking our inner truth. ⤵️

The TMJ also plays a vital role in communication and is closely linked to the throat chakra.

When this area is blocked or unbalanced, it can have implications for our physical, mental and emotional wellness.

The throat chakra develops around ages 7-12. If you grew up in a household with rules that could not be questioned or if you were told that children should be “seen and not heard," you may have shut down your fifth chakra. If you were scolded by caregivers or authority figures to “not talk back,” or if you felt not heard or listened to as a child, you may have some healing work to do.

Signs of blocked throat chakra energy include:

  • Thyroid issues

  • TMJ issues

  • Disorders of the throat, ears, voice and neck

  • Fear of speaking

  • Difficulty putting feelings into words

  • Small, weak voice

  • Inability to share your inner truth

If you want to dig deeper, Eastern Body Western Mind: Psychology and the Chakra Systems as a Path to the Self by Anodea Judith is the chakra bible.

Working with the TMJ and front of the neck in a bodywork session can help to clear blockages.
